Trek On: Our Favorite Hikes in SoCal

With perfect weather year-round, Southern California is an outdoor adventurer’s dream. We’re lucky enough to have expanded our community to the charming, sunny neighborhoods of Southern California, and we love finding any excuse to get out and get active in the neighborhoods we call home.

Just as we did with Northern California, we’re featuring our favorite hikes organized by campus, and why you should try the one closest to your Bay Club. Get outside and explore these gorgeous trails and treks, and then stop into your club for a post-hike healthy snack or yoga session!

SoCal Campuses

San Diego: Cedar Creek Falls
Just an hour outside of San Diego is one of the best waterfall hikes in the area. Just over four miles round-trip, the trail is perfect for any level of hiker—though be aware, it can get hot! Much of the land is exposed to high heat and sun, so make sure to bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water. You’ll reward all your hard work with a punchbowl pool that’s fed by a large waterfall and a beloved swimming hole for many.

Great for: Waterfalls, swimming, moderate intensity.

West Los Angeles: Sandstone Peak
Not far from Santa Monica lies Sandstone Peak, the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains. Take Mishe Mokwa Trail to the Sandstone Peak summit for a six-mile loop that can get steep in just a few places, but offers gorgeous views of rugged terrain, running water (depending on the season), and rocky peaks and valleys. You may be surprised at just how close the great outdoors is to busy urban Los Angeles.

Great for: Longer distance, remote landscape, summit views.

South Bay Los Angeles: Seascape Trail
What this hike lacks in distance it makes up for in scenery. An easy hike through the Palos Verdes peninsula, this trail is less than two miles and is perfect for any level of hiker—and kids too! The beach’s bluffs and rocky ridges are the backdrop to the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, with views of Catalina Island in the distance (on a clear day). If you’re looking for an easy hike with plenty of places to stop and picnic or just take in the scene, this hike is the perfect choice.

Great for: A calm and easy trek, convenient outdoor access from the South Bay area.

We’re lucky enough to live in a region that offers no limit of trails, hikes, and outdoor escapes. Find our favorite hikes in Northern California here. Any hikes you love near your Bay Club? Leave a comment!
