There’s a great debate among the Bay Area’s loyal Tahoe enthusiasts: Is this gorgeous mountain town best in the summer or winter? Though it’s true that Tahoe offers endless snowy fun, it’s also a perfect summer escape. Whether you’re fleeing the city fog, or just need a lake getaway, it’s tough to beat Tahoe on a cloudless, sunny day. And while beautiful trails abound throughout Tahoe National Forest, we love this special area for all the water—especially in the summer! Thinking a trip to Tahoe is sounding better and better? We think so, too! Here are three of our favorite ways to get out on the water this season. And since this is Tahoe, and winter activities always seem to wind down with the obligatory après-ski, we kept with tradition and added our top picks for après-summer fun.
Paddle Board on Donner Lake: While Lake Tahoe may steal the spotlight, Donner Lake is a gorgeous, less crowded option for those looking to get out on the water. And there’s no better way to explore the shorelines (and workout your core) than by renting a stand-up paddle board for the day.
Après-Paddle at Tahoe Mountain Brewery: One of our favorite places for a cold, craft beer on a hot day, we recommend stopping by Tahoe Mountain Brewery to relax, kick back, and give that tired core a break—over a flight of barrel-aged beer. You earned it!
Fly Fish near Truckee River: Tahoe has plenty of places to cast a line. And through our partnership with Tahoe Mountain Club, you can practice your angling skills with an expert guide. Ideally located near the Truckee River, Pyramid Lake and Prosser Reservoir, Tahoe Mountain Club will take care of the details for you, so you can focus on the fish. And if you’d prefer to stay near the property, you can always fish at the on-site pond, fully stocked with rainbow trout.
Après-Fish at The Pour House: You don’t have to go to Napa to appreciate a good wine. The Pour House is a great spot to sample some of California’s finest varieties. This is also the ultimate place to grab a picnic after a long day of fishing. Grab a few bottles of wine, crackers, and cheese, and you’re set for a perfect summer day.
Set Sail on Lake Tahoe: Don’t have a boat? Tahoe Mountain Club has got you covered. Cruise around Lake Tahoe aboard the Wild Goose II, inspired by the style and quality of the original wooden boat era. The 36-foot Grand Craft Commuter boat offers daily sunset cruises for a fun way to wind down the way with your family or friends.
Après-Sail at Tahoe Mountain Club: Rest your sea legs at Tahoe Mountain Club’s casual bar settings. We love The Terrace or PJ’s at Gray’s Crossing for their scenic views, killer cocktails, and delicious food menu to boot.
And don’t forget, as a Bay Club member, you’ll receive exclusive rates and perks at the Tahoe Mountain Club this summer. Check out all the details on our partner property here.
