These DIY animal breakfasts are fun, easy, and the most creative way we’ve found to start the day with a little something special. We know the old rule that you shouldn’t play with your food, but what could be more fun than turning your plain-Jane toast into your favorite forest animal? Or arranging your pancake to look just like your pet? Plus, they say eating breakfast helps kids pay attention, perform better on tests, and have more energy throughout the day (we’re still not sure if that’s a positive…). In any case, make this at-home session a little more enjoyable with these yummy DIY breakfasts. We’ve got recipes for jazzing up everything from oats, to toast, to pancakes!
Owl Oatmeal
Ingredients
Cooked oatmeal
Strawberries
Blueberries
Apple
Sliced almonds
Whole almonds
Bananas
Instructions
Decorate oatmeal with your desired toppings. We used:
For the Eyes: Banana slices with blueberries
For the Wings: Strawberries or apple slices
For the Nose: Whole almond or a cut strawberry slice
For the Body: Layer sliced almonds or layer banana slices
Animal Toast
Ingredients
Toast
Desired spread: peanut butter, cream cheese, or hazelnut spread
Strawberries
Blueberries
Apple
Sliced almonds
Whole almonds
Bananas
Instructions for Fox Toast:
1. Toast bread
2. Spread peanut butter on the top half of bread (as pictured)
3. Spread cream cheese on the bottom half of bread (as pictured)
4. Cut out 2 triangles (for ears) from another piece of toast
5. Cover triangles with peanut butter and place on toast as ears
6. Place sliced almonds on ears
7. Decorate with bananas and blueberries for nose and eyes
Instructions for Bear Toast
1. Toast bread
2. Spread hazelnut spread in a circular shape on the toast
3. Decorate with bananas and blueberries for ears, nose, and eyes
Instructions for Cat Toast
1. Toast bread
2. Spread peanut butter in a circular shape on the toast
3. Decorate with strawberries for ears and nose, blueberries for eyes, and apple slices for whiskers
Puppy Pancake
Ingredients
Pancake batter
Chocolate chips or blueberries
Apple
Flax seeds
Strawberries
Instructions
1. Make pancake batter (Optional: add chocolate chips or blueberries for a spotted puppy)
2. Heat non-stick pan to medium
3. Spread butter on pan
4. Pour pancake batter
5. For puppy face – normal circular pancake shape
6. For ears – 2 smaller ovals
7. Place face and two ear pancakes on a plate
8. Cut apple slice into snout and mouthpiece
9. Cut strawberry in half and place underneath pancake and apple as a tongue
10. Arrange flax seeds as whisker dots on apple
11. Place chocolate chips or blueberries as eyes and nose
