You know that feeling you get when foam rolling at home in your living room, mid-Netflix binge: “This feels so great, why don’t I foam roll these tight IT bands more often?” Or the “Holy smokes, I did it!” feeling after a high energy HIIT class with your fittest friend? And that sense of clarity from even two minutes of meditation? Us, too. Which is why we’re launching a suite of new, sweat and recovery-focused classes across all Bay Club locations starting February 1.
What will these classes look like, exactly? For the foam roll class, we’ll be using our favorite foam roller, aka the Rolls Royce of recovery, the Trigger Point Signature Grid, to roll and release muscle and fascia in a group fitness setting. It’s just a 30-minute class (so yes, you do have time) and fans of a good roll know its benefits: Increased blood flow, restoration of soft tissue, and maintenance of healthy fascia—all which help lead to improved performance over time.
And once you roll out that fascia, what about those mental knots? Even with the many amazing mindfulness apps out there, committing to a meditation practice can seem like one thing too many to add to an already full to-do list. Which is why we’re starting a 30-minute meditation class, called Reboot Meditation, as a beginner-friendly way to calm that monkey mind with a roomful of accountability partners. Since you’re already in the gym sweating, why not pop in for a quick sit and reap the benefits of a dedicated meditation practice (one that doubles as a your cool down). And there’s something about being in a group setting for led meditation that encourages an even deeper focus, an unexpected perk that’s inspiring us to show up to Reboot at least twice per week.
If you’re looking to keep your sweat routine fresh, Plyojam might just be your new, er, jam! Beloved by fit Angelenos like Reese Witherspoon, mere mortals with a thing for dance cardio and even those with two left feet, it’s a dance-based cardio class that combines explosive movement such as air squats and skaters with dance sequences in an easy-to-follow routine to shred and sculpt. Basically, Zumba with an edge. Oh, you’re a beginner like us? Plyojam’s got you. The choreography is simple and easy to follow, but never repeats class-to-class so it always feels fresh.
If you’re looking to try out what’s new in recovery and sweat, we’ll be hosting preview classes during our Fitness Open House, Thursday through Sunday, January 4-7. It’s our new year member celebration happening simultaneously at all Bay Club campuses from Northern California to San Diego, where we’ll be welcoming members to bring guests so you can get find your new favorite class with your favorite workout partner.
