In keeping with celebrating milestones, we know there are many happy occasions that our members have celebrated at the Bay Club. There are also milestones that mark accomplishments in overcoming sadness and adversity—and we treasure being a part of that journey, as well.
For years, the Bay Club has opened its doors (and more specifically, its fitness rooms) to Sunflower Wellness, an organization dedicated to making exercise possible for cancer patients. And we’ve had the privilege of being a place where these remarkable people can defy the odds and find strength. Every one of those days is a milestone and an inspiration to us!
Sunflower Wellness was started by Bay Club Personal Trainers Regan Fredric and Jane Clark with the mission of providing cancer patients with fitness classes that are both accessible and fun. From Pilates and aquatics, to cycling and boot camp classes, the Bay Club has been offering these programs through its partnership with Sunflower Wellness for more than 15 years.
As one of the strongest cancer exercise programs in the country, Sunflower is pioneering the emerging field of specialized, healing fitness. And Regan and Jane travel around the country training other exercise professionals and physical therapists on the specifics of the program, such as how to offer modifications and tiered levels, so the class can “meet each patient where they are physically.” They’ve also partnered with major Bay Area hospitals, including Stanford and UCSF, to work directly with cancer patients and their oncology teams.
Sunflower Wellness offers more than 40 classes a week in the Bay Area, most of which are held at Bay Club properties. And the camaraderie that develops in their classes has formed a sense of community outside of class, as well. Jane and Regan often see participants lounge at the Bay Club together after class, or go for a post-workout meal. “The community that has emerged is really amazing. It’s an organic off-shoot of the program,” they say. “It just formed naturally!”
And we’re honored to bring this community together at Sunflower Wellness’s first San Francisco event—a milestone unto itself! On July 27, we’ll host Summer Splash at Bay Club at the Gateway, featuring a live DJ and fashion show, along with local vendors, including food from Slanted Door and others, plus craft beer and apparel.
Tickets can be pre-purchased for $100 to benefit Sunflower Wellness. You can find all the details here. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this milestone event for a wonderful and worthy cause!
