With Halloween just a week away, you’re probably putting the final touches on your costumes, buying up candy in bulk, and making sure your house is properly decorated to greet the night’s trick-or-treaters. And if you have little ghouls and goblins looking to get into the holiday spirit, there is still plenty of time for some hauntingly fun DIYs—both decorative and edible! These Vampire Pumpkins would be a welcome addition to your doorstep on Halloween, and our Banana Ghost Pops will be a (healthier) treat for your little ones. Okay, so they might not be the scariest DIYs on the block—unless you count how scary cute they are!—but they will bring a smile to your face.
Vampire Pumpkins
To make these vampire pumpkins, you’ll need:
- Little pumpkins
- Glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth
- Googly eyes
- Pumpkin carving knife
- Hot glue gun
Instructions:
Using your pumpkin carving knife (kids, make sure you get an adult to help you!), cut out a hole big enough to fit your vampire teeth when closed or partially closed. Using a spoon, clean out some of the pumpkin seeds and insides. Wedge your teeth into this mouth hole.
Next, attach two googly eyes above your pumpkin’s mouth using the hot glue gun. Leave to dry for a minute.
Place your pumpkin on your doorstep and let his fangs glow in the dark!
Notes: You can also use regular vampire teeth for your pumpkin, but we thought the glow-in-the-dark teeth gave these little guys something extra—and your trick-or-treaters will be sure to spot them at night! And if you want to make sure your carved pumpkins stay preserved (no one likes a moldy pumpkin!), learn how here.
Banana Ghost Pops
To make these banana ghosts, you’ll need:
- Bananas
- Greek yogurt
- Shredded coconut
- Chocolate chips
- Lollipop sticks
- Knife
Instructions:
First, you’ll need to freeze your bananas. Peel them and place them on a cookie sheet for a couple of hours in the freezer.
Once frozen, cut your bananas in half and insert a lollipop or popsicle stick into the flat cut end.
Roll your banana half in greek yogurt until it is fully coated.
Next, roll the banana in coconut and sprinkle on extra to make sure it’s evenly distributed.
Lastly, press chocolate chip eyes firmly into your banana ghost.
Enjoy—it’s scary how good these ghosts are!
Note: If you’re not going to eat your ghosts right away, you can place them back on the cookie sheet in the freezer to keep them from getting too mushy.
