IGNITE! Everything You Need to Know About the Bay Club’s New Class

Did you know that every six months, the Bay Club’s stellar fitness team announces an entirely new type of class? This summer, we’re thrilled to debut our latest workout, IGNITE. This 50-minute high-intensity interval training class works every single part of the body. With dynamic motions, you’ll not only be burning calories but build muscle and strength—essentially igniting your entire form to the power of a positive workout. IGNITE’s premiering at Bay Club San Francisco in July and will quickly be added to the schedule at other club locations throughout the state. So what’s the workout like? Here we explain everything you need to know about IGNITE.

IGNITE class exercise

It’s a circuit class. Throughout the course you’ll perform six rounds of motions moving between cardio and strength-training. There are three distinct cardio components, so you’ll never get bored by spending too much time on the treadmill. The class is meant to be fast-paced with participants moving quickly from one set to the next.

A unique studio was explicitly built for IGNITE. The home of IGNITE? A new room stocked with cutting-edge equipment. The sleek space has cool blue lighting and a futuristic vibe. There are 30 spots in each class, so a maximum of 30 members can participate. You’ll choose the place you want to start, be it cardio or weight training. Essentially IGNITE is a boutique fitness studio within the club—but access to IGNITE and its studio is free for members.

It’s a tech-forward workout. Before you can take IGNITE, members must sign up for a Mywellness account or have a heart rate monitor device. This monitor will pair with screens that are in the studio. IGNITERs will be able to track heart rate in real-time throughout the 50-minute class. The same screens will show images of upcoming exercises and transitions. Everything is programmed in advance, so you’ll be able to follow along by watching what is on the screen. The visual video frees up the trainers and allows them to focus on your form rather than telling you what to do.

People running on treadmills

You’ll use special cardio equipment. There are three different cardio machines used during the IGNITE workout. First: Skillrun treadmills. These are state-of-the-art brand new machines that only recently hit the market. Skillrun has super high speed and incline options as well as a decline option. You can also run as if you were pushing a sled and there is an attachment that makes the user feel as if they are running with a parachute attached to their back. The second cardio gadget is Concept Two Rowers—a standard indoor rowing machine. The third and final piece of equipment you’ll use during IGNITE is the Versaclimber. With the Versaclimber, you stand with both your feet and hands on the machine, and you’re sliding up and down with your feet and legs at the same time to simulate a climbing motion. There are very few fitness classes that incorporate Versaclimbers, so the Bay Club is thrilled to pioneer this trend. In each class, you’ll use all three machines, so an example rotation is as follows: Treadmill, benches, Versaclimber, benches, rower, benches.

Lifting weights

IGNITE also calls for weights. When you’re not on a cardio machine, you’ll be stationed on a bench known as an Escape Deck. Essentially a step climber, an Escape Deck is a small bench that can be changed into 16 different shapes. It inclines, declines, ramps, flattens and has resistance attachments. On these benches, you’ll focus on weight training. Each studio will have an assortment of weights, ranging from five to 45 pounds.

Variety is essential. No class on the schedule will be the same. Every day, there will be different class focuses, from arms to abs to legs. Members can select what body part to work on each day without having to skip a day. Each month, the entire program will change, but the results—a full-body cardio and strength workout—will be the same.

Please let me know when this comes to Carmel Valley! They desperately need this type of class. And the late afternoon early evening hours are best for these classes.

Thanks for your comment Patti! We will pass your feedback to our team.

Would love to have this class at Redwood shores. I feel like there is not a good HIIT class for younger people and this would be perfect for people to have a substitute to Orange Theory down the street.

Thanks for your feedback! It’s at Bay Club San Francisco right now, but we are planning to roll out IGNITE to other clubs in the future.

Please tell me more about it and the cost to see if I can afford it. I’ve been ill and am mending presently. Need to get in FORM/FIT.

That’s what’s on my mind right now. Getting FIT! So what if it’s being repeated? They are my words and my thoughts.

I just took this class this AM at the Bay Club in El Segundo and loved it! Will this be a permanent class at this particular location?
