We don’t just sell lululemon in The Shop, we also align with their mission to create experiences that enable people to live happy, healthy, fun lives. Just as lululemon instills their company ethos into their products, the Bay Club strives to achieve the same effect in each of our clubs. This popular brand motivates us to breathe in, breathe out—then light the spark that lies within to pursue our passions. Ultimately, we create the world we want to live in. Luckily, lululemon provides plenty of inspiration.
Case in point? Meet Kristine Ciardello. She’s a lululemon Maven based in San Francisco who knows a thing or two about living life as it should be—beautifully imperfect. She’s not afraid to get sweaty. Oh, and find the time to indulge. She’s an advocate for lululemon’s values in our community, and when we sat down with her for a little Q&A session in celebration of National Yoga Month, we also found that she embodies the qualities that make this brand truly unique.
Who are you?
I’m witty, outgoing, welcoming, fitness-minded, and community-focused. And lucky to be lululemon’s San Francisco Maven, overseeing and building a community of ambassadors that embody lululemon’s core values. I couldn’t have written a better job for myself—I love what I do every day.
What do you know?
I know I want to lead a life that inspires and motivates others. And to live by this credo: Be true to yourself.
Simply, what do you love?
Life in Northern California—most specifically the ability to be on the beach and on the slopes on the same day. Oh, and, of course, I love dogs. And Mt. Tam cheese. (Laughing) Mt. Tam and burrata. Should I go on?
What are you inspired by?
People living their greatest visions. It inspires you to do the same. When you see people chasing their dreams, it makes you want to do everything you can to achieve your own.
What do you love most about working for lululemon?
The support. I’ve never felt more supported to reach my goals and follow my vision. Nothing seems out of reach. Especially when, as a lululemon team, we are all collaborating and working towards the same goal: To elevate the community that we live in and inspire people to do just what we are doing—pursuing passion.
And the products?
From the fabrics to the styles, the clothes completely enhance what you’re doing. There’s a reason people live in these clothes—they make you feel strong and comfortable—and above all else, confident. I love that fashion is considered in every design, and we’re constantly innovating new products. I know people that wear lululemon to work—and I’ve even worn one of our dresses to a wedding!
How does the idea of happiness play into your daily life?
Honestly, it’s the first thing I think about in the morning and before I go to bed. Don’t you think every day should be just like New Years Day, the start of something amazing? I’m a big believer in the now and happiness is now’s number one goal, but it all starts from within.
What do you love most about living in the Bay Area?
Except for college, I’ve spent my whole life here. I love the healthy mindset most. I love that you can be outside in the morning on a run and it seems like the whole community is with you—everyone’s out appreciating where we live. Also, the food scene—I think you all know what I mean—and the amount of innovation that comes out of this area. I love the city. But I love that you can get to the mountains. (Laughing) If you can’t tell by now, plainly I’m totally in love.
Next to the Bay Area, what’s your favorite place in the world?
I can’t choose one! Lake Tahoe for that first breath just as you step out of the car. And the big island of Hawaii for the breath-taking Kohala Coast.
What’s your morning routine?
Coffee, black coffee—does everyone say that? Then a morning sweat, which really amps me up for the day. Regardless of what I do, I always try to incorporate something new—a little way to shake up the start of the day. Breakfast also happens to be my favorite meal of the day. Eggs, avocado toast, morning jam, yum! Is it breakfast time soon?
How do you live an active life?
I dabble in a little bit of everything—running, hiking, yoga, and anything else that gets you moving, especially when it’s taking place outdoors. I’m also a certified Pilates instructor, which I fell in love with when training for a marathon. I also love taking classes when everyone is together—the energy is contagious.
How do you find balance in life?
I really learned the importance of finding balance during Lululemon’s #givepresence campaign. I’m more mindful about digitally unplugging to feel fully present in my free time. FOMO can be dangerous—I think it’s actually important to know when to say yes and when to say no. Sometimes it’s best to just say no when you realize that you might need some time to just do nothing. Oh, and I make sure to find time for life’s indulgences—that’s what weekends are for!
How do you unwind?
No surprise here: Exercise. It completely unwinds me. Also, spending time with family and friends over really good food. I’m a very big believer in gathering over a meal and I always love to host!
It’s actually sung by the great Billy Joel: “We might be laughing a bit too loud, oh but that never hurt no one.”
