What to Pack for a Poolside Picnic

What to Pack for a Poolside Picnic

Our friend Jenna Whitecar of Jenna Rose Colored Glasses knows how to plan the ultimate outdoor gathering. Jenna is a lifestyle blogger that values living a happy, healthy lifestyle—and now that the sun is shining, and summer is here, what’s a happier celebration than a picnic with great food and drink. Here are just some of Jenna’s tips:

We are full speed ahead for summer and it is especially exciting to start planning, prepping and daydreaming for all the fun activities ahead. On the top of the list? A poolside picnic!

Some of the best summer memories are spent by the pool. The smells of chlorine, sunscreen, and tropical drinks fill the air and nothing but happy faces surround you as they soak up the rays. All that extra vitamin D really does a body good! When you add a picnic to the mix, you get the trifecta of summer bliss: Food, sunshine and pool time!

Inspired by this season change, I’m sharing a few tips to get your plans into motion and make the best of your day.

Sunscreen
This is number one! Not only for your health but because nothing can put a damper on a fun, sunny day like a sunburn! Be sure to lather it up and reapply, especially after you take a dip in the pool. Also, make sure whatever lotion you put on your face is oil free and remember that a hat goes a long way!

Good Food
Pack quality food that you know you will enjoy and make sure to prep if you are barbecuing! Marinated meat and pre-chopped veggies for the grill are key! Consider allergies of your other picnickers and create a menu around that. Finger foods are also ideal as it is easy to snack on.

Plastic Utensils
No glass by a pool is a given. Luckily, there are really nice, sturdy plastic wine glasses, plates, and cutlery out there that will make the feast much easier to enjoy! If you invest in these items instead of paper products, it will make your future picnics much more convenient too.

Plenty of Water
Hydrating is key when enjoying a day in the sun! Make sure to drink plenty of water, especially when you are enjoying some extra mimosas by the pool!

Chapstick
Bring chapstick that has SPF in it and keep those puckers protected.

A Big Picnic Blanket
The bigger the better! More people can cuddle up on it and since oftentimes it acts as the table for eating, it’s nice to make room for all!

A Cooler and Sturdy Basket
These items are essential if you want to keep your food fresh. Be sure that there is plenty of ice in that cooler so the beers and perishables stay cool and delicious!

Books/Magazines
Food comas are no joke! When you are ready for your post-meal, relaxing time, a book or magazine makes the perfect companion.

Sunglasses
Protect those eyes and bring your sunnies along!

Anything to Play Music On
Bring a portable gadget you can connect your phone to so you can jam to your favorite playlist—good music sets the stage for a good time!
